High dependency issues in maternity care

Course overview
5 of the 10 study days will be taught days and the other 5 will be practice hours and you must have access to an HDU area for the full days.
This is an option module within the MSc Healthcare Practice programme and the PGDip/MSc Advanced Clinical Practice programme. It may also be taken as a free-standing module. The module is intended for registered midwives/nurses working in an obstetric unit and will enable participants to explore issues related to the provision of care to women in high dependency situations. The module will enable the participants to reflect on their current skills, developing further skills as necessary. Inter- professional working will be highlighted.
Aims
The module will enable students to reflect on and enhance high dependency care for women receiving maternity care. It provides a forum in which midwives can explore issues related to their practice, taking account of current evidence.
[Within the context of this module all references to ‘women’ mean ‘women and birthing people’.]
